Juan Sainz was raised on the U.S.-Mexico border between Agua Prieta, Sonora, and Douglas, Arizona. Growing up in a multicultural family, he developed a deep understanding of cultural identity and appreciation, as well as an acute awareness of border justice, shaped by his life experiences. Juan earned his Associate of Science degree in Biology from Cochise College in Douglas, AZ, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Food Studies, with a minor in Food Safety, from the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.

During his time at the University of Arizona, Juan cultivated his passion for social justice and cultural advocacy, particularly in areas relating to food systems. He applied this commitment during his internship in Food Safety and Pest Control, where he raised awareness about the connections between fair wages, worker rights, and food safety in the agricultural sector.

In addition to his professional career, Juan's biggest passion is music. He is a talented singer, songwriter, and producer, channeling his creativity to craft songs that reflect his cultural heritage and personal journey. Music serves as both a creative outlet and a way to connect with others, deepening his commitment to community and cultural expression.

Before joining Amistades, Juan served as a science educator in Douglas, AZ. His transition from the classroom to the community reflects his desire to make a broader impact. As the Project Coordinator for MPC II, Juan is enthusiastic about using his skills and life experience to foster change and healing in the Douglas community. Through his role, he aims to bridge cultural divides, promote social justice, and uplift the community that shaped him.
