The SAMHSA-funded Mayahuel Underage Drinking Task Force project is a community based program designed to prevent underage alcohol consumption, focused on youth between the ages of 12 – 20 in the Latino and multicultural communities in Tucson and South Tucson. The youth-driven activities include focus groups, town halls, environment scans, alcohol public events monitoring, information dissemination and community forums developed for and by the community,. The information derived from these activities are recorded and used to create an ongoing, three-year underage drinking prevention plan that also identifies multicultural influences and factors that can also impact underage drinking. This project monitors local underage drinking ordinances and recommends policy changes to the City of Tucson and/or Pima County.
