Operation S.A.L.S.A. (Southern Arizona Latinos Stopping Abuse)

Funded by the Kellenberger & Tollefson Center, this truly unique project is focused on supporting the 55+ LGBTQ Latino communities in Pima and Cochise Counties to help seniors age with dignity, confidence, and empowerment.  Amistades staff work directly with community members to increase awareness, prevention, and reporting of hate crimes and abuse as well as an increased awareness of suicide prevention and stigma.  Other goals of this project are to strengthen bonds between law enforcement and the LGBTQ community, provide free HIV/STD testing and safe sex awareness education, provide safe spaces for the LGBTQ community at our offices and with community partners, and offer resources and referrals to the LGBTQ community in need.  Staff members also host monthly advisory board and consortium meetings for planning, guest speakers, and community engagement.
